Two South River High School Students Awarded Gregory S. Winton Esq. ScholarshipLearn more

Congratulations to Justine Buchanan and Cameron Young, who were awarded the 2025-2026 Gregory S. Winton Esq. Scholarship!

Join us in congratulating Justine Buchanan and Cameron Love on being awarded the Gregory S. Winton Esq. Scholarship.

This scholarship will help cover the expenses of Cameron and Justine’s journey to earning their Private Pilots certificate.

Justine, a senior at South River High School, has always been interested in aviation thanks to her great-great uncle who was a former stunt pilot. With her father working for the FAA and her cousin owning an aviation company, piloting is in Justine’s blood as she hopes to one day become a commercial pilot. As Justine said,my dream of becoming a pilot is truly possible” thanks to this scholarship.

Cameron, a junior at South River High School, co-founded the South River Aviation Club and is an avid aerial photographer. His instagram page — Cams-CameraMD boasts more than 1,500 followers. As Cameron puts it, this scholarship “eased a significant financial burden and allows me to continue my training with greater focus, confidence, and purpose.”

The Gregory S. Winton Esq. Scholarship was launched in memory of Gregory Winton, an aviation attorney, a commercial pilot, and a certified flight instructor for more than 30 years who devoted his personal and professional life to the advancement of the aviation industry. Greg believed in the importance of cultivating the next generation, and he became involved with Anne Arundel County Public Schools to create courses and extracurricular opportunities for aspiring pilots. He served on the Education Foundation of Anne Arundel County Public Schools Board of Directors from 2017 until he unexpectedly  passed away in 2021 at the age of 57.

Greg’s family created a scholarship in his name to sponsor high school students in the Anne Arundel County public school system to get their pilot’s licenses. Through this scholarship fund, we carry on his passion for getting aspiring pilots into the air and making it accessible for them to pursue their dreams.
